STFU Moffat

Oh please. This is not “criticising something you love”. No one here has any love for Moffat. This is a hate blog. If it was called “STFU sexist elements in DW” or “STFU moments of bad writing” I’d disagree with you but probably be okay with it. You don’t understand the mentality of never criticising something you love? I don’t understand the mentality of creating blogs devoted to bashing people and bashing their fans and then acting bemused that the fans aren’t exactly thrilled to bits about it

Well, you are right about hating Moffat, but we do for all the reasons we’ve listed here. Also, lol, may I point you to the post I wrote where I said I love Donna, but she does have flaws? I posted it only a couple days ago, but that’s just one of many. Once again, we criticise other elements and other TV shows, but it will always go back to the Moffat since he’s in the seat of power and because we love the shows, but not his writing. Also, this isn’t so much a hate blog, but a blog where we point out the bullshit in his shows. If you want a blog explicitly about the sexist moments in Doctor Who, go to feministwhoniverse.

Once again, we’re not bashing anything here. It’s called analysing and yeah, I’m not going to understand shallow attacks like this.

Q:"Go on, give me one example of a bisexual ever who hasn’t been promiscuous, cheating or unreliable." River Song.

rightnowbb

I love River Song (which is why I’m so annoyed by how her character and storyline’s been treated), but you and I obviously have very different views of her as a character.

River has always had this sort of “is she a good guy, is she a bad guy” thing surrounding her, for a long time we didn’t know where she stood, we knew she was in jail for killing someone, and I wouldn’t call her the most reliable of characters, no.

Promiscuous is probably not the word I’d choose to describe her, you are right, but she is very flirtatious (and for some reason only with men?).

These things do not nesseccarily have to be bad things (especially disproving of the latter would be slut-shaming which is uncool), but together they paint the picture of a type of character that we’ve seen far too often together with the word bisexual. Of course there are bisexual women who are flirtatious and more into men than women, and there’s nothing wrong with that! But when that’s the only kind of bisexual character we ever get, it’s annoying! And really stereotypical! Where are the shy or introverted bisexuals? Where are the bisexuals with a low sex drive? Where are the bisexuals who don’t flirt? How come bisexual (or any other sexual minority) characters aren’t allowed the same depth as the straight ones?

People like to compare her and Jack Harkness, and say that people don’t seem to have any problem with him being the way he is, and that River is essentially a female Jack. Which is true. But Jack isn’t free from faults either, and is once again the kind of character who you don’t really know where you have them and who flirts a lot. It’s not 100% relevant to this blog, but when Jack appeared to be almost exclusively gay in the last season of Torchwood, I was majorly pissed off. So I’m not just annoyed when bisexual characters appear pretty exclusively straight, it goes the other way as well.

About

Because some people shouldn't be allowed to have their shit left unquestioned.

Before we get any questions like "If you hate Doctor Who so much you can just stop watching!":

We don't hate DW or Sherlock, in fact we really really like those shows. That is why we're being critical. If we didn't like them, we wouldn't be nearly as annoyed, we'd simply change channels.
