Hi there, whovians! I hope you enjoy it here.
I started this blog for several reasons. Firstly, there’s been a lot of debate on tumblr about sexism, feminism and Doctor Who, but it’s focussed largely on New Who. love New Who and I’m not here to bash it, but I want to see more discussions of the awesome female characters of generations past, and the best way of guaranteeing that I get to see those discussions is by starting a few myself.
The second reason I started this was that there seems to be a misconception that all the women in Classic Who ever did was sit around, getting kidnapped and rescued, screaming and falling over and generally being useless. I’m really not sure how anyone who has actually WATCHED a decent amount Classic Who can think this. I’m not going to pretend that the show has ever been entirely devoid of sexism, but Classic Who has some incredible women who deserve to be celebrated and it annoys me that there are girls who are probably put off watching because they believe that everyone before Rose Tyler sat around passively and never did anything.
My vague plan for this blog is to go through the Classic Who episodes (probably in chronological order, though I may jump about a bit depending on how I feel) and post episode reviews that focus on the female characters. I’ll also post and reblog meta on various classic companions and maybe I’ll occasionally reblog the odd fic rec or piece of fanart if it seems particularly relevant. I’d love to answer some asks, too! I hope people enjoy this blog. :)
